Congratulations to the forty fourth president of the United States, President Barack Hussein Obama. May he have the support of all because “it is ultimately the faith and determination of the American people upon which this nation relies”.
What an amazing inaugural ceremony it was. With massive numbers of people unheard of in the history of the United States. Fantastic.
What is his message of hope? What is it that he believes that will carry us through? It is responsibility to duty – and not a standing on our rights. What are the truths we have to return to? It is: “those values upon which our success depends -- honesty and hard work, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism -- these things are old. These things are true. They have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history.” Fantastic.
He said: “That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood”. And so we are. “the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many.”
“But know this America: They will be met.” And this is where he will need the support of all.
Wow and then this sentence: “The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.” This is great.
Let us all join hands and do as he says: “For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of our economy calls for action, bold and swift. And we will act”. All our mere mortals can say is hear, hear mr. President.
We will get out of this he says. To those who say we cannot he says: “they have forgotten what this country has already done, what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage.”
He says that the success of America is not just because of its size “but on the reach of our prosperity, on the ability to extend opportunity to every willing heart”. And I have a willing heart Mr President.
And another powerful message that I applaud: “know that America is a friend of each … and every man … who seeks a future of peace and dignity”. Powerful words indeed.
